Ryan Carp was born in Voorhees, New Jersey, in 1996 — the same year the Nintendo 64 revolutionized 3D console gaming — perhaps an early sign of his future appreciation for all things vintage. He grew up with his older sister, Rachael, along with a Husky named Jethro and a cat named Razzle, who was named after the Razzles candy brand. The connection was fitting, as Ryan’s grandfather worked for Fleer and helped coordinate cross-promotions with the candy company. One of Ryan’s favorite childhood memories was traveling throughout the United States, the Caribbean, and Mexico with his father, a police officer who dedicated nearly all his vacation time to family adventures.

Ryan attended Timber Creek High School in Erial, New Jersey, where he spent much of his time with friends while developing a growing interest in design. During his junior year, he began working with his stepfather in the window treatment industry. Around the same time, he discovered thrifting, reselling vintage items, and freelance design work through Craigslist. It did not take long for Ryan to realize he had found a true passion.

After graduating from high school, Ryan attended Camden County Community College, majoring in Graphic Design. To support himself while in school, he created album artwork for local musicians. He later transferred to Montclair State University, just outside New York City, where he continued expanding his creative and technical skills. His professors proved especially influential, including one who had served as Creative Director for legendary producer Rick Rubin, known for his work with Slayer and the Beastie Boys.

The year 2019 marked several major milestones for Ryan. He graduated from Montclair State University with a bachelor’s degree in visual communication, secured an internship in Hoboken managing social media for a nightclub and designing custom event materials, and met his fiancée, Zelma. The following summer, Ryan joined Vortex Supply, where he applied his graphic design talents to redesigning the company website, developing product imagery, and strengthening marketing initiatives. When Vortex was acquired by Runyon Surface Prep in 2023, Ryan became part of the Runyon marketing team, where he continues to specialize in visual communication and brand development.

Outside of work, Ryan enjoys film photography, vinyl records, analog media, and nearly anything vintage. He and Zelma share their home with two cats and two chihuahuas who happily run the household. With a wedding on the horizon, life stays busy. Ryan is also a devoted Philadelphia Phillies fan and a loyal Chargers football fan — thanks in part to his mother’s family roots in Chula Vista, California — giving him plenty to cheer about throughout the year.

Ryan is a creative force at Runyon Surface Prep, and his talent for visual storytelling plays an important role in the company’s marketing success. Thank you, Ryan, for your creativity, dedication, and artistic vision. We look forward to seeing what you create next!
