Tom Caltabiano was born on January 26, 1986, on Long Island, New York—during the Super Bowl halftime show when the Chicago Bears crushed the New England Patriots. You could say he was literally born into sports. He has two sisters: an older sister who lives in New York and a younger sister who lives in Boston. Given his birthright, it’s no surprise that sports have always been a big part of his life, especially baseball, which he fell in love with as a young child. Growing up on the water, he also spent countless hours fishing, clamming, crabbing, surfing and creating unforgettable memories with his family and friends.
Despite all the outdoor adventures, Tom was always a hard worker. His dad had him working on a landscaping crew by the age of 12, and by 13 he’d earned enough to buy his own boat—a 13-foot Boston Whaler powered by a 40-horsepower Johnson outboard. From there, he spent his free time fishing, crabbing, clamming and enjoying the Bay with his friends. He also worked in the service industry starting with his uncle’s coastal seafood restaurant and later in high end steak and seafood houses. Throughout it all, Tom continued to play baseball for Massapequa High School, where he excelled as a catcher and earned 4 varsity letters.
Tom graduated from Hofstra University in 2008 with a degree in business, concentrating in marketing as well as finishing his baseball career. After college, he made the big move to California, For the first 8 years of his professional career Tom was in the marketing and advertising business working with several startups before joining Houzz, where he spent five years as a key member of the brand advertising team and oversaw co-op partnerships. From there, he joined Quest Building Products, where he led sales and operations, helping grow the business until it was acquired by Jon-Don in 2019. He remained with Jon-Don in a sales role until the company closed in 2025, at which point he joined the Runyon Surface Prep team.

Over a decade earlier, Tom met his wife, Brittney, through a mutual friend, and they were married in June of 2014. They now have two children: Sienna, 11, and Dominic, 7. Sienna enjoys competition cheer, softball All-Stars, and flag football, while Dominic plays baseball, soccer, and flag football and has been riding dirtbikes since he was three and a half years old. Staying true to his lifelong love of sports, Tom coaches all his kids’ teams—except cheer.
When he’s not working or coaching, Tom still loves to surf, a passion he’s maintained throughout his life. He’s also an avid downhill mountain biker, taking full advantage of Southern California’s incredible trails. Although he’s embraced life on the West Coast, Tom remains a diehard Yankees and Jets fan, while also cheering for the nearby Angels and Ducks. When the family isn’t playing sports or watching them, they enjoy spending time with their three-year-old mini Goldendoodle, Nala.

Tom’s experience and leadership were instrumental in bringing our new Southern California location online. Since then, he has done an outstanding job managing operations while continuing to grow sales throughout the region. His positive attitude, strong work ethic, and unwavering follow-through make him an invaluable member of the Runyon team. Thank you for everything you do, Tom—we can’t wait to see what the future holds for you and your all-star team out west.
